Robben Ford's 'The Inside Story' is an icon of the L.A. fusion scene of the early 80's. His compositions are cinematic and funky at the same time. His backing band is also iconic with Yellowjackets Russell Ferrante (synthesizer) Jimmy Haslip (bass) and Ricky Lawson (drums) and The Blues Brothers band members Tom "Bones" Malone (trombone), Alan "Mr. Fabulous" Rubin (trumpet), Lou "Blue Lou" Marini (sax) and Steve Cropper (producer). It's a very clean recorded album. Every song is just wonderful to listen to. On some of his solos, Robben is an endless waterfall of hip ways to play blues and add jazz idioms to one's blues playing. Simply put, this is one of the greatest jazz/fusion releases ever from one of the greatest guitarists ever!
