Reviews:

Since he hit it big with "Take This Job and Shove It" in the late'70s, Paycheck has been arrested for slander, alleged rape, and aggravatedassault-and he spent New Year's 1990 in prison, serving a two-yearsentence for the latter. With such a nefarious off-stage life, it's easyto reduce Paycheck's image to that of a sleazy cartoon character-andit's taken The Soul & The Edge to restore the icon to his much-deservedglory. Just listen to the funky rhythms of "Take This Job and Shove It,"the autobiographical "11 Months And 29 Days," or the talking-countryblues of "Colorado Cool-Aid." But the politically-correct 21st centuryhasn't been easy on Johnny Paycheck-today he lies dying in a Nashvillehospital bed, his body and soul broken from the hard life he chose. So turnup the CD player and sing along to "I've Seen Better Days," Paycheck'shomespun version of Sinatra's "My Way." Pop open a six-pack ofCoors and call in sick at work. Better yet, tell your boss to "shove it"-JohnnyPaycheck would be proud.
