After Bread dissolved, he issued a number of fine solo albums. His first solo album was appropriately titled First. Gates recorded and produced his solo album First in 1973. The single "Clouds" peaked at #47 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart and #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Wounded Bird.
